The captain will tell about the history of Peterborough and the Trent-Severn waterway. The cruise passes through Little Lake, past the Peterborough Centennial Fountain and the city itself. This waterway includes a wide variety of bridges and locks, which have a nearly 120 year history . The famous Peterborough Lift Lock 21, the world's highest hydraulic lift-lock. Built in 1904 on the Trent Canal of the Trent-Severn waterway, this boat lift with two caissons was a huge technological achievement of its time. The device made it possible to raise vessels to a height of 20 meters, while for ordinary locks this figure was only two meters. This is the first lock in the world built of concrete; at the time of construction - the largest building in the world from solid unreinforced concrete. Downtown Peterborough Petroglyphs Provincial Park. The largest number of petroglyphs (embossed images on stone) made by Indigenous people. On petroglyphs you can see turtles, snakes, birds, people, shamans, the Great Spirit and much more. This sacred place is known as Learning Stones. The oldest images were taken in the Tenth Century. • Lake McGinnis with piercing green-blue water is a rare meromictic water body (there is practically no water circulation between different layers). There are only nine such lakes in Canada. A great opportunity to watch wildlife. 416-722-9043 info@torontogf.com
